St. Peter's Episcopal Church
One Body of transformation embracing all people
through Christ's love
St Peters offers Christian education for people of all ages.
All parishioners and visitors are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Nursery
(3 years & younger)
Offered for children beginning
at 9:30 each Sunday (Sept – May). And at 10:30 during the summer months.
SUNDAY
SCHOOL
Offered at 9:30 AM from
September through May. A description of the age breakdown follows:
Godly Play
(3, 4 and 5 years olds)
In our sacred
space, we present the stories of our faith, wonder about them together, and then
allow the children open-ended opportunities, usually with art supplies, to
engage the story on their own terms. This is play. It is Godly. It is meeting
God along with children rather than teaching them what we adults think they
ought to know. Our faith stories are very powerful and offer plenty to think
about even without our elaboration on what they "mean."
This class meets until 11 AM, entering the service at the Peace.
Journey with Jesus
(1st
and 2nd grade)
Children follow Jesus and
His teachings from birth through Resurrection through stories, play, and
wondering time. They begin to study the meaning of Communion, Baptism, and the
Lord’s Prayer. This class is taught in a two year rotation, with stories
repeating every two years. This class meets until 11AM, entering the service at
the Peace.
3rd-5th
Grade Class
Children begin deep study
of the Sacraments and Worship, God’s Covenant, Miracles, Prophesy, Parables,
Psalms, the life of Paul, the Episcopal Catechism, and Church History. This
fact-filled class is taught in a three-year rotation, with students exposed to
new lessons each year.
Jr
High Class
(6th
– 8th Grade)
Middle schoolers will study lessons
given to us in the Bible by meeting the characters in the Old Testament and the
New Testament stories, as well as those who have witnessed in our modern world.
They will also return to the rituals and beliefs of the Church and learn what
Spiritual Life can be. The teachers of this age level encourage these
adolescents to debate and question as part of the process of developing their
own beliefs.
Sr
High Class
(9th
– 12th Grade)
High schoolers will search for
meaningfulness in the Bible, in Faith, and in the Episcopal Church. Their
curriculum is grouped by theme, including Success & Failure, Peace & Justice,
and Difficult Decisions. They will learn about other faiths and learn how to be
People of God. They will have an integral part in planning and conducting their
classes, as they choose from a variety of ways to explore each theme.
ST.
PETERS YOUTH (SPY)
